An analysis of DeSantis’ record on healthcare shows a general commitment to limited government principles. As a member of Congress and Governor, DeSantis has an excellent record of opposition to Obamacare and advancing healthcare alternatives. Additionally, he signed multiple outstanding reforms surrounding certificate of need and licensure which expanded competition and lowered costs. However, DeSantis also worsened government interference and regulations in the pharmaceutical industry and signed measures which further grew the size of the state’s Medicaid system – which has ballooned to nearly a third of the entire state budget.
