Fueling Out-of-Control Spending by Adding $10 Million for Infrastructure and Job Training Grants (Which Benefit Only Select Companies) in the Appropriations Bill.

This bill increases work search requirements for recipients to remain eligible for unemployment insurance. Under existing law, recipients were required to make contact with 3 employers or access career center services to be eligible for benefits. This bill requires at least 4 "work search activities" each week. In addition to submitting resumes and interviewing for jobs, this can include completing an approved skills assessment, a civil service exam, attending a job fair, or other activities designed to help a recipient gain employment. The bill also requires the Department of Labor and Workforce Development to develop a portal for employers to report recipients who fail to appear for a scheduled job interview and provides that failing to appear for a scheduled job interview makes a recipient ineligible for benefits that week. Support is the Limited Government Position as combatting fraud within the state's unemployment insurance system is critical to maintaining low payroll taxes for businesses which are forced to pay into the system. While unemployment insurance should not be carried out by government - rather, a system should be established whereby individuals and companies can purchase into a program on the private marketplace - lawmakers have a duty to maintain the integrity of the system.

Strengthening the Integrity of the Unemployment Insurance System and Reducing Fraud through Increased Work Search Requirements and a New Employer Reporting Portal.

This bill expands the list of individuals who are authorized to carry a concealed firearm on the campuses of public institutions of higher education. Under the bill, retired law enforcement officers with enhanced concealed carry licenses, have served at least 20 years, and are employed part-time by the university are now authorized to carry a concealed firearm. Support is the Limited Government Position as disarming individuals through pointless "gun control" measures merely make law-abiding citizens targets to criminals who do not abide by the law. This bill requires courts to impose "blended sentences" on juvenile offenders who commit violent crimes such as murder, rape, kidnapping, and carjacking. In cases where the crime would be considered a class A felony if committed by an adult, the juvenile must be held in a secure Department of Children's Services Facility through age 19. After that time, they must serve an additional 4 years (until they are 24) in an adult prison.
